The Freedom of Salvation

The Fourth of July is a great way to celebrate the freedom of America. We can look at the past and appreciate all that was done so that we could be a free people today. There is a more important freedom than this great political freedom though, and that is the spiritual freedom of salvation.

For the wages of sin is death… The Bible says in Romans 3:23 – “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Not one of us can say that we are as holy as God is, therefore we must be separated from Him for all eternity in a place called the Lake of Fire. Romans 6:23a “For the wages of sin is death;…” How many times have you done wrong in your life and felt you had to? The Bible describes this live as being in “bondage” (slavery) to sin and the devil.

But the gift of God There is a cure though. Romans 6:23b “but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” There is a beautiful change, a freedom from this slavery to sin. The Bible promises in Acts 16:31 “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved and thy house.” You will be freed from any punishment in Hell if (Romans 10:9-10) “If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” This means you believe Jesus is God and the only Savior, and you are not ashamed of believing this. God says that if you are truly not ashamed, you will be willing to say this out loud. While not a requirement to be saved, it is a proof that you believe.

Will you be free? The Bible says that the unsaved are “in bondage.” If you trust Jesus Christ to be your personal Savior, you will be free from sin and the burden of fulfilling the law (Romans 6:14). You will no longer be a slave but a child of God (Romans 8:14). So what are you waiting for? Come be free today!
