A Parent’s Guide to Pocket Chibi – Anime Dress Up (App/Game)

Pocket Chibi – Anime Dress Up by Lunime

Type: Dress Up

Basic Idea: Characters can dress up chibi style characters and create stories with them.

Game Play: 3½/5 Above Average: The game has the player dressing up characters with dozens of different eyes, hair, weapons, poses, and outfits. Then, players can take them to one of two places. One can enter a chat room, were with other people, engage in role playing. A person may also take them to a private room, decorate it, put up speech bubbles, and create scenarios with their characters. There are certainly a lot of options, for creating scenarios.

Graphics: 3½/5 Above Average: The graphics are plain in some ways, but there is a lot of variety in types of clothing with a bit of detail. The clothing isn’t too detailed unless one pays money for it, and the backgrounds are a bit plain, though there are a lot.

Music and Sound Effects: 3/5 Average: There are no sound affects that I can remember, and the music is a continuous, plain electronic style song.

Overall: 3½/5 Above Average: This game is probably best described as an elaborate paper doll game played digitally. It’s not Love Nikki Dress Up fancy, but it’s still a good game. It would probably attract the interest mostly of children between six and twelve, but I would still recommend caution, as it does allow children to talk to total strangers online.

Moral Content

Official Rating: E

Sexual and Inappropriate Content: 2½/5 Very Suggestive Clothing: This game probably has the most scandalously dressed chibis I have ever seen. It includes more than a page of swimsuits (most which are cleavage showing bikini style), as well as shirtless ones, midriffs, and short skirts. Finally, there is one outfit that is almost dominatrix style with a tight laced front. “Pole” is a potential pose, which has your chibi poll dancing. There is a role play chat room called “Chibi Romance.”

Though not something for sure to show up, chat rooms can have very blatant sexual role playing.

Violence: 0/5 None

Swearing and Using the Lord’s Name in Vain: 0/5 None

Emotional, Intense, and Disturbing Content: ½/5 Light Disturbing Content: Characters can wield weapons and have fighting poses. There are eyes with black dripping, crying, and cracks around them. There are pets with skulls. There is a book prop with the word “DEATH” written inside it. There are a skeleton, gravestone, and a chair with bones props. There is also a graveyard background.

Religious Issues: ½/5 Brief Mention: There are what looks like devil horns. There is a pet that looks like a devil, as well as ghost pets. There are also zombie props. “Zombie” is a potential pose.

Magic: 1/5 Light Appearance: One hat looks like a witch hat. There are magic star symbols on some objects. There are fairy decorations, dragons, unicorn/Pegasuses, and fairy-like animals. A default name is “Summoner.” “Magic” and “Broom sit” are potential poses.

Others: There is a lottery ticket given out for daily, but not risk is taken, making it more like a prize than the lottery. “Dab” is a potential pose.

Overall: I honestly don’t want to overreact, but I have never thought until I saw this that chibi characters could really be portrayed as sexually as this game portrays them. I don’t want to totally ban this game, but I honestly can’t condone a video game to others that has so many outfits like this one does. I understand swimsuits, but pole dancing and dominatrix style outfits are just unnecessary in every way. It is also possible to find blatantly sexual conversations in the chat rooms. So, as a whole, I don’t recommend this game, but those who understand safety in chat rooms (or know to avoid them) and who understand the importance of modest dress.
